Ethereum Foundation: Co-Director Stańczak Steps Down

Tomasz Stańczak will step down from his role as Co-Executive Director of the Ethereum Foundation at the end of the month ^[1]. The developer had only assumed the leadership position in March 2025 alongside Hsiao-Wei Wang, after previous director Aya Miyaguchi came under pressure.

Stańczak cites a strategic reorientation as the reason for his resignation: He wants to return to working more closely as a product-focused developer and concentrate on artificial intelligence and agentic systems ^[1]. He also indicated that his operational role had recently diminished, as the leadership team has been operating increasingly independently.

His successor will be Bastian Aue, who has previously worked behind the scenes on strategic and organizational tasks. Wang will remain in her position as Co-Director ^[1].

Under the leadership of Stańczak and Wang, the Foundation had increased its development velocity, eliminated 19 positions, and placed stronger focus on scaling the base blockchain. New initiatives on privacy, quantum resistance, and AI were launched ^[1]. Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin praised Stańczak's contributions and emphasized that the organization had become more efficient under his involvement.
