Bitcoin Children's Book Author Wants Financial Education in Schools

A German Bitcoin advocate is on a mission to teach children what schools largely ignore: the fundamentals of money. Ed Scotland, author of the Bitcoin children's book series featuring protagonist Marla, is preparing to release his second title, which explores the history and nature of money through interactive storytelling and illustrations ^[1].

The upcoming book includes QR codes linking to educational videos and a card game called "Money Wars," in which 26 different historical forms of money compete against each other. Scotland says the project is deliberately more ambitious than his debut, covering questions like why humans use money and which monetary forms have stood the test of time ^[1].

Beyond publishing, Scotland has co-founded a company to bring financial literacy workshops directly into schools, where he says educators are receptive but lack the capacity to develop this material themselves. "Even adults can rarely give a plausible answer to what money actually is," he told BTC-ECHO ^[1].

At home, Scotland lets his teenage son choose between euro and Bitcoin for his allowance, with the teen reportedly opting for Bitcoin when he wants to save. The family uses a Lightning Network wallet designed for children to handle small transactions ^[1].

Looking ahead 20 years, Scotland believes Bitcoin will play an increasingly significant role globally, pointing to growing nation-state accumulation and its fixed supply as key differentiators from traditional currencies ^[1].
